Review from the concert at "Yeah 09" Örebro
"Ibland känns det som om popscenen har för många unga singer-song-writers. Begåvade unga killar och tjejer som inte vill annat än berätta sina historier med gitarren som enda kompanjon. Men många blir förvillande lika och mest gäspande iakttagelser.
Det gäller inte Mohlavyr. Hon tar plats utan egentligen större åthävor när hon ställer sig på Yeahfestivalens lilla scen i Safari-tälet. Hennes röst, underfundigt kaxiga texter och minspel besegrar och det korta framträdandet ger bara mersmak.
Mohlavyr heter Ulrika Mohlin och hon vet att utnyttja det enkla i att utnyttja först och främst sin lekande säkra sång, den akustiska gitarrens närhet liksom dragspelets och sina tre manliga medmusikanters skicklighet i att använda ståbas, cello och piano.
Musiken är målmedvetet driven i sin anspråkslöhet. Flirtar lite med fransk chanson-tradition genom dragspelet och de franska korta textinslagen. Men kan framför allt karakteriseras som stark och djärv. Och glad.
En större scen och längre konsert väntar garanterat Mohlavyr. Själv ville jag förlänga konserten genom att köpa den nya EP:n. Det var jag inte ensam om, den tog nämligen snabbt slut i festivalens merchandise-tält."

Mohlavyr CD: "Art is music, music is art"
"It's no secret that I have a fondness for singles. To me it can mean the ultimate test of a band: you have two songs, prove yourself. Prove you're worthy of my attention. "Art is music, music is art" is a two song release by Örebro (Sweden) musician Mohlavyr (nee Ulrika Mohlin). Together the pieces manage to evoke french cabaret and street music, like Tom Waits performing the songs of Edith Piaf... or vice versa. I waver every time I listen to this recording. I'm naturally inclined to "Mr Grey" as Lundström plays musical saw on the piece (one of my all-time favorite instruments), but "Whatever" is just too charming. At the end of the ditty you have a Swede singing in French, which just tickles me (both songs are presented in English otherwise). So I'm not going to pick a favorite. Any single where either song could count as the "A" side is a winner. (Yes, it passes the Rev. Nørb Law of Singles*. Easily)
